Xiaomi Mi 9 to start at $516 in China, transparent version to be $885

Xiaomi is making the Mi 9 official at an event in China on February 20. We've already seen a lot of leaks about it, and even some officially posted teasers - check out these images, for example. The company has confirmed that the phone will have the Snapdragon 855 chipset on board, and the main rear camera is said to be a 48 MP unit.

Now a new purported leak of a promo poster gives us a picture of what to expect in terms of pricing. Apparently the normal version of the handset will retail for CNY 3,499, which right now translates into about $516 or 458. There will also be a variant with a transparent back, allegedly to be priced at CNY 5,999 ($885 or 785).

If this info pans out, it means the Mi 9 will be launched for a higher price than its predecessor, which started at CNY 2,699 ($398 or 353). Then again, with the upcoming phone you do get three rear cameras for the first time in a Xiaomi. Keep in mind that even if these prices are real, in other parts of the world the phone may end up being sold for different amounts.

The image below is a comparison table of the size of the bottom bezel for the Mi 9 and a few competing devices - the vivo X23, Huawei nova 4, Honor View 20, and Oppo R17.

Unsurprising from what looks to be a promotional slide, Xiaomi's next flagship has the smallest chin of them all, coming in at just 3.6mm. This was shared by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on Weibo a few hours ago.
